INSANITY SOULS: A Horror/Souls-like Game Where a Little Girl Faces Her Inner and Outer Demons

Insanity Souls is an indie third-person action-adventure game with psychological horror and soulslike touches that was produced by ReveVoodoo and published on April 12th of this year, on the itch.io platform. In Insanity Souls, you are Abgail, a little girl who has schizophrenia and who suffers from doubts about life around her, reaching the point of not being able to discern what is real from what is not. She apparently was living well with her parents, until one day someone (or something) shows up at the door of the house and kills them, leaving Abgail fighting for her survival, facing enemies outside (and inside as well).

In terms of graphics and visuals, Insanity Souls is very well done and quite competent at it. ReveVoodoo combines a peculiar aesthetic with the camera tricks that are quite common in the games produced by him. But the biggest and most interesting aspect here is its gameplay: Insanity Souls combines a style of action and survival horror in third person, well in the style of current games like the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, Dead Space and the like, with the recent and famous Soulslike style, created by the Dark Souls series, but with a certain lightness. In the same way as in the Souls series, Insanity Souls features slightly stronger enemies and a management of the use of Stamina in battles: if you use too much, the bar ends and you will end up being an easy target for your opponent, therefore the way you fight is needed here.

Unfortunately, the current version is not without its flaws: Insanity Souls has some bugs related to the inventory, regarding the lack of elements to recover the energy bar, but the most glaring bug is in key moments, where you (in theory) should recover the character control after a cutscene. But here, the bug prevents you from controlling Abgail and, consequently, proceeding in the game. Normal Insanity Souls gameplay can be completed in about 2 hours, and a snippet of it can be seen here on our channel. If you're interested, download the game from the itch.io page (I recommend waiting for a more updated version to come out). Just click on the respective links below.
