KARDIOSSOMATIC: Your Life is LITERALLY In your Hands in this Survival Game
Kardiossomatic is a first-person indie survival game produced by NeitherNathan and published on April 20, 2020, on the indie gaming platform "itch.io". In Kardiossomatic, you have your life in your hands. Literally. You find yourself inside a maze and to get out of there, you need to follow your heart, which shines depending on where you aim. In addition, you need to balance your heartbeat, preventing it from accelerating to the point of having a heart attack, as well as preventing it from slowing down until it flatlines, that is, to stop beating permanently.
As stated above, the game was produced by NeitherNathan, the same one who brought us an excellent find; of course we are talking about the prototype for Courage: The Videogame, which was a project to be developed and released for the PSX but which was canceled in the process. Kardiossomatic was set to be released at last year's Ludum Dare Jam. In terms of graphics, there's not much to say: Kardiossomatic has a great retro look inspired by the aesthetics of PSX games. The gameplay is simple: you just have to direct your heart to all sides until it starts to glow, and so, you follow the direction guided by the glow.
The soundtrack is mostly made up of songs from popular culture, like Elton John and BJ Thomas, with an instrumental version of "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head (which by the way is a sensational song)". The level of challenge is reasonable, since you need to balance your heartbeat while walking through the maze, which can be tricky for first-time players.
