ENDLESS BLUE: Investigate the Depths of the Ocean in this 90s-Inspired Survival Horror Game

Updated: Sep 22, 2023

Endless Blue is a survival horror game produced by mrdiv and with a prototype version published on September 1st of that year, on the indie gaming platform "itch.io". The game does not have a defined plot. You control Reina, a spy who investigates what appears to be an underwater research complex full of mysteries.

There are no secrets here: Endless Blue was heavily inspired by the survival horror classics of the 90s, and seeks to recreate all the aesthetics that existed in games at the time. Here we see clearly that it was inspired by games like Resident Evil and Dino Crisis, so much so that the L key allows you to switch between normal (Dino Crisis) or tank (Resident Evil) controls. In terms of visuals, without a doubt this game has a very beautiful look, which goes from the main character to the scenarios. Sometimes there are bugs in them in a few moments, but because it's a prototype, it's passable.

The soundtrack shown here is small, but very well done and matches very well with the atmosphere provided by the game. In fact, Endless Blue is a game that is well worth keeping up with in terms of updates or news. It has excellent potential and in my opinion, I very much hope that it will be worked into a possible final version, as it has all the nice and nostalgic points even.

It's worth remembering that it was produced as a project for the Summer of Shivers, a game jam hosted by the indie community that most understands PSX aesthetics, the Haunted PS1.
