ODYSSEON: Save an World on the Brink of Destruction in this Amazing Experimental RPG Game

Odysseon is a turn-based indie role-playing game produced by Hawf and with a demo version published on August 17th of that year, on the indie gaming platform "itch.io". In Odysseon you control Ekoi, a knight in the service of the mainland, who has been tasked with investigating a small archipelago nearby, which is believed to be the site of the "Odysseon", an ancient machine endowed with unimaginable power in his hands. wrong, could trigger worldwide chaos, perhaps even the extermination of humanity. To make matters worse, Ekoi discovers that a group of cultists are after the machine, most likely to use its power. It's up to you and a group of unlikely locals to travel across the archipelago to get to the Odysseon before the cultists and destroy the machine to save the world.

Odysseon was one of the big surprises I played this year. Starting with some impressive points here, such as the visual part, which was completely created from a program called Ganbreeder (it has an AI that mixes several images and creates art through them), which explains the exotic look of the characters. And as if that wasn't experimental enough (could we classify Odysseon as an avant-garde RPG game? who knows...), its soundtrack, composed of samples of some vintage songs (which unfortunately couldn't stay in our gameplay video, due to copyright issues involving some in-game music), provide the most amazing experience ever seen in an indie game.

As for the gameplay aspect, the game has just the basics to venture out here. You use arrow keys to move, Z for action, X for cancel and ESC for menu. In addition you use F5 to switch between Fullscreen and Windowed mode and also F6 to change the window's scale. The plot is something that seems to be typical of more traditional RPGs, but it works very well here together with the experimentalism provided by the visuals and music.

In fact, Odysseon is an amazing experience, worth playing and replaying. If only with the demo we could see the enormous potential that the game has, imagine the full version of it... it could certainly be one of the best indie RPGs we've played here on the channel. We can't wait for this game to be finished.
