THE 3RD PLACE: A Horror Game That Unites Two Different Eras Under a Web of Macabre Secrets

The 3rd Place is an indie first-person simulation and horror game being developed by teddy_lastname and which had its demo published on May 2nd of this year, on the itch.io platform. The 3rd Place puts you in two different eras to explore: One, in 2019, where you control a hobbyst painter girl who often watches video tapes alone in her room at night. And another one, in 1992, precisely the video tape you're watching: here, you control a kind of supernatural hunter, who explores an old abandoned apartment complex.

According to teddy_lastname, this demo of The 3rd Place was conceived as a proof of concept for a surreal narrative horror game, which is influenced by games like Silent Hill, Echo Night and LSD: Dream Simulator. In terms of graphics, these influences are quite noticeable, since the game has a similar atmosphere to Silent Hill, although I would like to see more direct influences and not just be relegated to the atmosphere. The look, while not in the same recent trend of horror games with a PSX aesthetic, is very reminiscent of a PSX game (I don't know if it's for everyone, but I personally felt the game had a very PSX vibe).

As for the gameplay, we can say that the inspiration in LSD: Dream Simulator is remarkable: you walk through huge locations and interact with objects, ranging from notes containing information about the place and events to even a simple key that would be needed to open a door ahead. In addition, it is worth remembering that, at certain times, the events present in the 1992 video also influence the girl's room in 2019, so interaction with everything here is essential, as apparently her room will change according to what you do. on video.

The 3rd Place manages to combine interesting elements from games that are totally different from each other. It will be great to experience this full game once it comes out.
