THE CHAMELEON: A Action/Stealth Game with Super-powers, set in the 70s

The Chameleon is an indie action game with stealth and superpowers created by merlinogames and released on the "" platform, on December 31, 2020. The game is set in the 70s and you control a guy apparently named Dr. F. You wake up in a research complex with no memory of how you got there, let alone who you are. You just hear a message that echoes in the speakers: evacuate. It is up to you to try to escape the complex, using your stealth and your powers, while trying to discover the secrets of this place.

The game has an impressive retro look, reminiscent of PS1 games, more precisely from the late 90s and early 2000s, where you could see games that used the full potential of Sony's 32-bit console hardware. The game also has good gameplay, and it is certainly well influenced by games like Metal Gear Solid.

Here you use stealth to escape the view of GUARDs (robotic security), but the interesting thing is the use of superpowers as an element of stealth. You can become your enemy to go unnoticed, use super strength to take down robots, and even create objects out of nothing. However, doing all of this consumes a lot of energy, which can cause it to end if the energy runs out while in the enemy's sight.

The soundtrack is engaging and presents a typical style of spy films, in addition to presenting aesthetics taken from science fiction films. All of this combines very well within the game, as this is part of the plot.

The game is currently in the demo phase and is expected to be released in mid-2021. It is worth remembering that the game has a bug that in my opinion is very uncomfortable: sometimes you punch your opponent while disguised and the enemy ends up being pushed with the punch instead of knocked over. This breaks the game experience a lot if the player wants to clean the area to avoid problems with the guards.

Despite being a demo, The Chameleon is a solid game, with a nostalgic visual appeal, a simple but fun storyline, and interesting gameplay. It is worth waiting for the full game. You can check the gameplay by clicking here and, if you are interested, you can download the game from the link below:
