THE ELEVATOR: A Horror Game About a Mystery Involving an Elevator in a Hotel
The Elevator is a short indie first-person simulation and horror game that was produced by 616 GAMES and published on May 5th of this year, on the itch.io platform. In The Elevator, you are Josh, who works a night shift at a hotel once a week. When he is not serving the customers who spend the night there, he is trying to understand what is going on with one of the elevators, which has an apparent malfunction. But Josh ends up understanding that there is something mysterious about that elevator, after having a brief hallucination, and now he needs to find out what's behind it all.
Once again, 616 GAMES presents us with a title with beautiful retro visuals and with that obvious inspiration. In case you didn't know, the studio has as its main inspiration for its games Puppet Combo, an indie studio that produced excellent "triple-B" (as he identifies himself) horror games, such as "Murder House", "Night Shift", "Feed Me Billy" and the most famous of them "Nun Massacre". The graphics in The Elevator follow the same line, presenting an aesthetic in the good old style of PS1 games (but being able to choose between a PS2 or VHS look, among others). The gameplay is very simple: you only explore one area of the hotel (the reception), where all the action takes place. You'll get some people claiming to occupy hotel rooms, so you need to check the registration book to see if that person's name is there (similar to a game called Security Booth). If the person is there, you can let them in, otherwise, it's expulsion for sure.
